WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (AP) — The chairman of an Arkansas board that licenses and disciplines doctors was injured Wednesday in a car explosion that police say was caused by a device planted in the vehicle.
West Memphis Police Chief Bob Paudert said "some type of explosive device" was planted in the car that blew up Wednesday as Arkansas State Medical Board Chairman Trent P. Pierce was leaving his West Memphis home for work.
"We believe he was on the outside of the car when the explosion occurred," Paudert said.
Pierce, a family physician, was taken to Regional Medical Center in Memphis Hospital spokeswoman Sandy Snell says he's listed in critical condition,
