Fred Walters ran out of patience after months of waiting to bury his half-brother, mother and grandmother.
He once verbally threatened the medical examiner and, in turn, was threatened with charges.
Unable to wait any longer, Walters then organized a Jan. 17 memorial service to say goodbye to his relatives who had been washed off Bolivar Peninsula on Sept. 13 during Hurricane Ike’s surge. But only Walters’ half brother, whose body had finally been identified through a partial fingerprint, could be buried. His mother and grandmother remain missing, possibly among five unidentified bodies on ice in the morgue.
And Galveston County authorities will not be looking for any more bodies as they now have officially ended their search.
